I know that my watchers will see that I updated my journal. I know many of you don't read my journals,
but please think about making an exception today.
The reason why I want you to read what I have to say today is, that I'm always pondering about a theme that could also interest you.
This pondering started some time ago and strengthend when I found out, that only Subscribers are able,to write and receive critiques. And today, after reading <devWilderWein77>'s poll about suggesting DDs, I thought that I should think about everything aloud.
I won't string you along any longer, so I wanna tell you the matter.
I'm really wondering about a sense of being a member of this community.
I know a lot of artists, who are so unbelievable talented, but they don't gain any attention. Nobody notices them although they 'd deserve it.
Believe me, I know that it's not simple to notice everyone in this huge community. But what is it, that makes some poeple so popular in here?
I speak from my own experience when I say that sometimes it feels like you're trying really everything to gain attention - but nothing changes.
And when you really think about the sense of deviantART - isn't it to show others your work?
To show, that you've got talent? And to hear, what others have to say about it? Isn't the sense, that you share your art?
But what do you do, when you have nobody to share your art? When nobody even knows that you're existing?
You're posting comments and thumbnails in the forum, you publish news on dA, you get a membership in a club, you participate in competitions, but nothing happens. You struggle with attracting interests, but even after a year, or two, nothing happened.
And even when you receive a DD, people notice your work for just one single day. I don't believe that they'll remember you a week, or two later.
That's exactly one of my points.
On top of it comes the fact that you also have to pay for nearly everything. Even for getting critique.
It seems to me that there's a slowly happening division of an elite and outsiders.
You're profil page looks "cool" when you have the abilty to change the style of your journal.
You can only receive "real" critique, when you pay for a subscription.
And don't you want these ads to be removed? Then pay for a subscription!
I'm sorry, but it slowly begins to annoy me.
I'm sure that you're now wondering, why I want you to read this stuff.
Not for making you leaving dA.
I want you to read this, because I want you to really think why you're here and why you do all this.
I don't want to insult anyone with a subscription. That's really not my intention.
But I think that there are less people who really think about the sense of getting a member.
Maybe I'm wrting nonsense and maybe I'm just pondering too much.
But nevertheless,
I thought this needed to be said.

I don't know why you are making an entire journal entry on the basis of my poll. It was done purely out of randomness and curiosity. And perhaps an encouragement to suggest daily deviations. I don't understand how that can offend you so much.
Since you are bringing popularity into the mix, which has nothing to do with my poll or DDs in the first place, the majority of the artwork I feature are from artist that are so called 'unpopular' (if you must measure it as such). But even so; more known artists are not discriminated against a feature. Good art is good art.
You're right, we can't be everywhere on this humongous site, that is why it's such a great thing that you are the ones that bring good art to our attention.
All the more reason for you to send lots and lots of DD suggestions.
Subscriptions have nothing to do with it either. Subscribed members may have low pageviews and non subscribers may have a million pageviews. People pay for the practicalities of no adds, more thumbs while browsing and so on.
You can still give and receive critiques nonetheless.
Back to the poll thing. I'm sensing that the frustration lies elsewhere and not a silly poll. If there's anything I can do to help, feel free to drop me a note. I'm more than happy to listen.
But I'm happy. Thank you.
So at first I have to say that I wasn't angry about your poll.
It just made me thinking. That was all. I'm really not mad at you as person or about the fact that you wanted to encourage other ones. And I think here's a big misunderstanding.
I'm not feeling offended and I didn't want to offend you.
So I wanna apologize to you if I did so. I didn't wanna hurt you.
The point I was talking about is that I was, and still am, thinking about so many things. About a sense.
(Okay that must sound very strange and silly to you...)
And if you want to, I'll delete your name and the mentioned poll. I don't wanna start a fight or a discussion about, as you said, a "silly poll".
As I mentioned in my entry, I'm just frustrated.
Although I really like deviantart, there are sometimes situations that really annoy me.
I'll give you an example:
A few weeks ago, I started a project with a friend, conceived to feature artists, who'd really deserve to. I announced it in the forum and also wrote news, but no one seemed to have interest. Although I really tried everything to advise as many people as I could of supporting the project,it failed. And there I began to think where the problem is and if there's really a sense of trying to catch peoples eyes with very great art when no one seems to have interest.
And the other point is that I don't understand why I have to buy a subscription for having the ability of getting critique.
But anyway,
I thank you, for offering me the possibility to talk to you if it's needed.
So,
I hope, I was able to explain everything to you and to solve the problem with the missunderstanding.

I just thought it went out of the line of the poll. I'm sorry that you feel frustrated about things on dA, but you're perfectly entitled to do so. Things frustrate me and many others too, it's just a matter of making the best of your stay.
If you really wish to highlight great art, by the sound of it, you're doing a great job. Perhaps you can start watching the Gallery Moderator for that particular gallery to stay informed about the gallery and happenings, that is what we're here for.
And thank you for talking about it to me.
